December 2 2009 -Eric: Here is another video from quite a while ago that I
forgot to upload. We're currently in Ko Phi Phi and after stupidly
eating some obviously bad watermelon I have been violently ill for
the last two days. Feeling better today and hoping the boat ride off
the island doesn't kill me.
November 27 2009 -Eric: This makes two MASSIVE updates in a row, if you missed the last one check it out here. We have managed to get a ton of videos uploaded while in Phuket so enjoy catching up on all of those. We suspect we won't have internet often for a while as we are headed to an island that literally has no roads. Kyde also typed up an explanation for what we did for Thanksgiving so don't miss that below the videos. Below that even I added some pictures from the time period these videos were all shot. Enjoy!
Kyde's Thanksgiving post: As many know, my favorite holiday of all is Thanksgiving. I love the fact that we are all just getting together to be thankful for what we have and eat a delicious meal. I can't think of anything better! Anyways, I've been asked a lot "What are you going to do for thanksgiving while you're gone?" Well, I honestly had no idea... what do you do in Thailand for Thanksgiving? So, here's what we did!
The day started of nice and lazy! I'm thankful for sleep and snuggling. Managed to get outta bed around 10:30. Eric went out for a swim in the ocean, while I (sunburnt enough) took some time to chat with friends and family on the computer. I'm thankful for the internet and how easy it can be to connect with someone a whole world away! Showered and ready to hit the road, we headed for the only place we thought we saw the word TURKEY on the menu... SUBWAY! I am thankful for TURKEY & SUBWAY because they are both delicious!! Our Thanksgiving lunch went a little like this...
I'm thankful for chocolate chip cookies because they are better than macodamia nut ones! We headed out of SUBWAY and managed to get away from the touts by walking on the other side of the street, but I am thankful for touts because they say stuff like "Hey Tall Man!" and "You look like osama" to Eric! We took a fun motorbike ride to Tesco/Lotus where Eric worked on his scaring-kyde skills. I'm thankful for motorbikes because they have provided a chance to get over some fear and work toward a goal!
At Tesco/Lotus, I had been talking about getting an entire cake and eating it for Thanksgiving. Well, Eric didn't talk me outta it. A half pint of milk shared and 2/3s of a cake later, we walked outta the store pretty drunk on sugar. I'm not exactly sure if I'm thankful for cake, but it did make Eric say "Okay, brain turn on." Those are comforting words when heading into traffic!
Our next stop was to see the BIG BUDDAH, but we did make a detour to an ikea-like store. It was kind of a bore, but we managed to work off some of our sugar coma with a looksee. We climbed hill after hill to reach the BIG BUDDAH and were not let down by the name once we arrived. It was huge and at the top of a mountain. Pretty epic. I had read we could donate money and sign a slab of marble which would later be mounted on the foundation of the BIG BUDDAH. It was a little more baht than we expected, but it had to be done. We made this!
I'm thankful for the BIG BUDDAH because it made me feel like we were a little chunk of history. And that's very cool! The sunset view from the BIG BUDDAH was not good, so we headed back to our favorite beach, Kata, to enjoy a swim. The sunset was amazing and the waves were super calm for a relaxing float. I am thankful that jellysfish don't like Kata Beach! Dinner was thai food with the best banana shakes on the island for the best price (we got seconds later). I finished off the night online dropping some Thanksgiving Valentines.
A lot of people asked if I was going to be upset that I would miss Thanksgiving. I mean, it's a reasonable questions since I celebrate it anytime that I can. I totally miss it. I plan to make up for it as soon as possible! Although I am pretty homesick, I am thankful to be exactly where I am safe and stuffed!
